There are two headlines on TPM's front page right now that tell you a lot about how 2024 is going to go. The first is this piece by Kate Riga: "In Their Quest For Dominance, Republicans Break Government At All Levels." In the article, she describes the GOP's hostility toward governance and lays bare their true electoral and policy prerogative: "It's power for power's sake, a purposeful breaking of the legislature in performance of that power." You also have this headline from David Kurtz about yesterday's Iowa primary: Iowa GOP Embraces Insurrectionist For POTUS. The GOP has become a party animated by Trump's vision of what power is for and how it is wielded. If you read TPM, this isn't anything shocking. But that's because at TPM we strive to write what is actually happening in plain english. We don't reflexively resort to the sort of passive, political speak that assumes everyone is acting in good faith with America's best interests in the forefront. A lot of places think using normal language that says what is really going on is "biased." We think it's simply transparent truth-telling, in other words, journalism. We hope you'll consider supporting our work this election year. |
