November 13th was officially TPM's 25th Anniversary. We're pretty proud of that fact and you may have noticed that we haven't exactly been shy about it. A few weeks ago we hosted a celebratory live podcast with an oral history of TPM at the Metrograph theater in NYC. The night after we threw a party for readers, colleagues, and staff in Brooklyn. Throughout the fall we've been publishing a series of 25 essays we commissioned about notable moments from the last 25 years of digital media. Our founder, Josh Marshall, has been interviewed multiple times about the 25 year milestone and what it takes to survive as an independent digital media company. Maybe this comes across as self-congratulating, navel-gazey, or just a bit much. But there is one theme animating and connecting these various celebrations. It's not so much satisfaction with the work we've done, but rather, it's that without our readers' support, none of this would be possible. There's a lot of doom and gloom in the journalism industry. We hoped promoting our 25th Anniversary might inspire some optimism. We've shown that it's possible to survive, and at times even thrive, as a small, independent news outlet. And to the extent there is a secret sauce, we're happy letting anyone who will listen know that it's having a loyal audience who will support you.
So this Thanksgiving, we wanted to say we're thankful for you. Whether you show your support by becoming a member, reading and sharing our articles, listening to our podcasts, or just acknowledging when asked that you have, in fact, heard of us, it makes a difference.
And before we completely turn the page on the 25th Anniversary celebrations, we're bringing back, for a limited time, our biggest membership discount ever.
